Jackson, Kentucky – Storms developing this evening could bring hail up to 1 inch and damaging wind gusts across eastern Kentucky, with the highest impact expected north of I-64 between 7 p.m. and midnight.
According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, the greatest severe threat will focus along and north of the I-64 corridor, where early discrete storms may intensify quickly before merging into a southeast-moving line overnight. Limited atmospheric moisture is expected to keep the tornado threat very low.
Cities including Morehead, Maysville, and Ashland face the strongest potential for hail and damaging winds early in the event. Drivers along I-64 and nearby routes could encounter sudden downpours and rapidly changing road conditions during the evening hours.
As storms shift southeast toward areas like Jackson, London, and Somerset, the overall intensity is expected to decrease. However, gusty winds and pockets of hail may still impact communities, particularly north of the Hal Rogers Parkway.
Residents should secure outdoor items, move vehicles under cover, and remain indoors as storms approach. Travel may become hazardous during peak storm timing.
The storm threat continues into the overnight hours, with additional warnings possible as conditions evolve across the region.
