Tucson, Arizona – Triple-digit heat is gripping much of Arizona today, with peak temperatures pushing 100°F in Phoenix and 99°F in Tucson by midafternoon, creating immediate risks for heat-related illness.

According to the National Weather Service in Tucson, an Extreme Heat Warning remains in effect through 8 p.m. Sunday, with the hottest conditions expected between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. Forecasters indicate widespread highs from 97°F in Eloy to 101°F in Gila Bend, with little overnight relief.

Across southern Arizona, cities including Tucson, Marana, and Green Valley are expected to hover near 99°F, while Sells reaches 98°F. Farther east, communities like Safford and Willcox will see highs in the mid-90s, but dry air and intense sun will still elevate heat stress levels. Roadways such as I-10 and State Route 86 could see vehicle overheating incidents during peak hours.

Residents are urged to avoid outdoor activity during peak heat, drink water every 20 minutes, and never leave children or pets in vehicles. Cooling centers may see increased demand through the late afternoon.

The heat threat will ease slightly after sunset, but elevated overnight temperatures will continue into early Monday, with additional advisories possible if the heat persists.
