New Mexico – The morning starts cool and calm, but the sun is already setting the stage for a rapid heat surge across Albuquerque.
According to the National Weather Service, temperatures climb from 88°F today to 91°F Tuesday and peak near 94°F by Wednesday. Dry air and clear skies will drive fast daytime warming across central New Mexico.
Across Albuquerque, Rio Rancho, and Bernalillo, expect a sharp rise from the low 50s this morning into the upper 80s by mid-afternoon. The air feels dry, and sunlight intensifies quickly before noon.
Drivers along I-25 and I-40 will see clear roads and excellent visibility. However, heat shimmer and glare could develop during peak afternoon travel. Keep sunglasses handy and stay alert during longer drives.
The bigger concern builds into midweek. Increasing heat paired with very low humidity raises the risk for fire weather conditions. Vegetation remains dry, and winds may occasionally pick up in the afternoons.
Limit outdoor burning and secure anything that could spark. Plan strenuous activity earlier in the day. Hydration will be key as temperatures climb faster than typical for March.
Nights offer some relief, dropping into the upper 40s and low 50s, but the warming trend continues steadily through Thursday.
