Florida – Bright sun and warm ocean breezes are pulling crowds to Jacksonville beaches this morning, but a hidden danger is building in the surf right now.

According to the National Weather Service in Jacksonville, a high risk of rip currents is in effect for northeast Florida beaches through this evening. These powerful currents can quickly pull swimmers away from shore, even in otherwise calm-looking water.

Temperatures are climbing to around 86°F today, creating classic “Spring Break” beach conditions across Duval, Nassau, and St. Johns counties. From Jacksonville Beach to Atlantic Beach and Ponte Vedra, the combination of warmth and sunshine will draw heavy foot traffic to the coastline.

Lifeguards strongly urge swimmers to stay near staffed areas. If caught in a rip current, float and swim parallel to shore. Do not fight the current directly. Conditions can turn dangerous within seconds.

Away from the coast, inland Jacksonville stays dry and sunny today with light west winds up to 15 mph. Roads, including I-95 and I-295, remain clear with no weather-related travel concerns.

The pattern stays warm into Monday with highs near 87°F and continued sunshine. By Tuesday, moisture increases with a 40% chance of showers and possible thunderstorms after late morning. Breezy conditions could develop, especially near the coast.

Midweek brings scattered shower chances and slightly cooler temperatures in the mid-70s. Sunshine returns by Thursday with highs near 81°F, keeping the spring pattern active but manageable.

If you’re heading to the beach today, treat the ocean with caution. Are conditions rough where you are? Let us know what you’re seeing along the coast.
