Philadelphia, Pennsylvania – Severe thunderstorms are set to hit the Philadelphia metro between 4 p.m. and 10 p.m. Sunday, with damaging winds strong enough to down trees and power lines during the evening commute.
According to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, a slight risk for severe storms covers Philadelphia and surrounding areas, including Allentown, Reading, Trenton, and Wilmington. Storms may produce wind gusts exceeding 60 mph and hail over 1 inch in diameter, with enough instability in place to support an isolated tornado.
The most intense activity is expected to develop late Sunday afternoon and push east across the I-95 corridor, directly impacting Center City, Northeast Philadelphia, and nearby suburbs. ભારે downpours could quickly flood low-lying roads, especially along I-76, I-95, and the Schuylkill Expressway, where drainage issues are common.
Residents should secure outdoor items, prepare for possible power outages, and stay alert for warnings that could be issued with little notice. Avoid unnecessary travel during peak storm timing if possible.
Storms will begin to weaken after 10 p.m., but additional alerts may be issued if any cells intensify rapidly.
