Winnipeg, Manitoba – A 36-year-old man was arrested Thursday following a retail enforcement project that allegedly uncovered an extensive series of tool thefts across Winnipeg.

According to the Winnipeg Police Service, officers assigned to the East District Community Support Unit identified the suspect shortly before 5 p.m. in the 1500 block of Regent Avenue during a targeted retail operation. Police allege the man, identified as Sudhysher Sitrindin Bowman, was linked to a string of shoplifting incidents involving brand-name tools from multiple home improvement stores across the city.

Investigators allege the incidents occurred between early January and Thursday, spanning numerous locations including Regent Avenue, Empress Street, Leila Avenue, Kenaston Boulevard and Abinojii Mikanah. The reported losses in each case ranged from a few hundred dollars to more than $1,300, with repeated thefts allegedly taking place at the same retail locations. Authorities said store surveillance cameras repeatedly captured the suspect, helping link the incidents together.

Police further allege that Bowman used stolen identification to pawn more than 400 items at a Main Street pawn shop between Jan. 11 and March 1. The total estimated value of the pawned merchandise is between $105,000 and $140,000, with investigators alleging approximately $34,600 was received in exchange.

Authorities reported recovering about $12,000 worth of stolen property from the pawn shop as the investigation progressed.

Bowman has been charged with multiple offenses, including 23 counts of theft under $5,000, identity fraud, trafficking in property obtained by crime over $5,000, and 12 counts of failing to comply with a recognizance. The allegations have not been proven in court.

The investigation remains ongoing as police continue reviewing evidence tied to additional incidents.
