Juneau, Alaska – Snow is already falling across the Alaska Panhandle early Saturday morning, with visibility dropping and roads turning slick as accumulating snow spreads through key coastal communities.

According to the National Weather Service in Juneau, Winter Weather Advisories remain in effect across much of southeast Alaska through Saturday evening, with snowfall totals ranging from 3 to 7 inches and wind gusts reaching up to 50 mph in exposed areas like Sitka and coastal zones near Cape Fairweather.

Communities including Juneau, Sitka, Yakutat, and Petersburg are seeing the heaviest snow rates through Saturday morning, with brief bursts nearing 1 inch per hour. Roads, air travel, and ferry operations may face delays as visibility drops below 1 mile at times. The Dalton Highway is not impacted, but local routes and marine channels could see disruptions.

Temperatures climbing into the mid to upper 30s by Saturday afternoon may limit additional accumulation at sea level, especially in Juneau and Yakutat. However, heavier snow bands could still overcome melting and lead to slushy, snow-covered roads.

Residents are urged to slow down, secure outdoor items, and prepare for changing conditions. Snowfall will taper later Saturday evening, but additional bands could redevelop into Sunday as the system lingers.
