Shreveport, Louisiana – Wildfire risk is escalating across the Ark-La-Tex this afternoon, with dry air and steady winds creating conditions that could spark fast-moving fires before sunset.
According to the National Weather Service in Shreveport, elevated fire weather conditions will persist across northern and central Louisiana, East Texas, southern Arkansas, and southeast Oklahoma until 7 p.m. Sunday. Afternoon humidity levels are dropping between 30% and 45%, while south winds are holding between 10 and 20 mph with higher gusts.
Cities including Shreveport, Bossier City, Texarkana, Tyler, Longview, and Lufkin sit in the highest risk zone, where dry vegetation can ignite quickly. In rural areas like Natchitoches, Ruston, and El Dorado, fire spread could accelerate along open fields and wooded corridors, especially near highways and utility lines.
Residents are urged to avoid outdoor burning, grilling on open flames, or using equipment that could spark. Even a small ember could spread rapidly under these conditions. Local officials advise reporting any signs of smoke immediately to law enforcement.
These conditions remain in place through Sunday evening, with additional advisories possible if winds strengthen or humidity drops further.
