Corpus Christi, Texas – Triple-digit heat is pushing into South Texas this afternoon, raising fire concerns and straining outdoor conditions across inland communities within the next few hours.
According to the National Weather Service in Corpus Christi, temperatures will climb to 98–100°F across the Brush Country and inland Coastal Plains by peak heating Saturday, with elevated fire weather conditions stretching from Laredo to Beeville through early evening.
Cotulla and Tilden are expected to hit 99°F, while Freer reaches 97°F and Alice nears 96°F. Laredo will also push into the upper 90s. Farther east, Beeville may top out near 93°F, while Corpus Christi stays slightly cooler in the low 90s due to coastal influence. Victoria remains in the mid-80s, but dry air inland is the bigger concern.
The combination of heat, low humidity, and dry vegetation increases the risk for fast-moving grass fires, especially along roadways like I-35 and rural highways west of I-37. Residents should avoid outdoor burning, secure trailer chains, and delay yard work that could spark flames.
Conditions begin to ease after sunset, but elevated fire risk remains in place through Saturday evening, with additional advisories possible if dry patterns persist into early next week.
