Cosperville, Indiana – Water is already pressing toward homes in Noble County this morning, with the North Branch Elkhart River holding above flood stage and threatening low-lying properties through the next several days.
According to the National Weather Service in Northern Indiana, the river at Cosperville measured 6.3 feet as of 9:30 a.m. Saturday and is expected to remain near that level through tonight. Flood stage is 6.0 feet, and minor flooding will continue until early Thursday morning as levels slowly recede.
Impacts are already developing along Waldron Lake Drive, Woodland Drive, and the southern stretch of Steinbarger Lake Road, where water begins approaching foundations at 6.5 feet. Drivers in these areas could encounter water-covered roads at any time, especially overnight when visibility drops.
Emergency officials stress that most flood-related deaths occur in vehicles. Motorists are urged to avoid barricaded or water-covered roads and use alternate routes. Residents near the river should monitor water levels closely and prepare for possible access issues to homes and driveways.
The river is expected to fall below flood stage early Thursday, but additional updates are scheduled by 4:30 a.m. Sunday as conditions evolve.
