California’s coastline wakes up under a low gray layer, with patchy fog hugging San Diego’s beaches and creeping into inland valleys. Visibility drops on early drives, especially along I-5 and I-8, where headlights cut through a damp, muted haze.

According to the National Weather Service, fog will linger through mid-morning before clearing to mostly sunny skies and a high near 82°F today. This pattern repeats into early next week, with highs ranging from 78°F to 80°F and consistent morning fog before 11 a.m.

Downtown San Diego, Chula Vista, and La Mesa will see the fastest clearing by late morning. Roads dry quickly, but early commuters should allow extra time. Reduced visibility may dip below a mile in spots near the coast. Use low beams and keep distance between vehicles.

Along coastal neighborhoods and into Oceanside, the marine layer stays thicker longer. Beaches remain cool early, then warm rapidly by afternoon. Inland areas, including El Cajon, will feel the biggest temperature swings, climbing from the upper 50s into the upper 70s.

Meteorologists continue tracking stable high pressure, keeping rain out of the picture while reinforcing this fog-to-sun cycle. Conditions remain calm, but timing matters for travel and outdoor plans.

Looking ahead to Tuesday, sunshine dominates after another foggy start, with highs near 79°F. The broader warming trend across the West continues, though San Diego stays seasonably mild.
