Indianapolis, Indiana – Temperatures climbing toward 80°F by Sunday afternoon could challenge long-standing records, adding to an already historic start to 2026 across central Indiana.
According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, nine daily records have already been tied or broken this year, including a 9.1-inch snowfall in late January and multiple record-high temperatures through February and March. Sunday’s projected high near 80°F comes close to the standing record of 82°F and continues a pattern of extreme swings.
Indianapolis has seen temperatures exceed previous records by as much as 5 to 7 degrees in recent weeks, including a March 10 morning low that set a new high minimum temperature record. Nearby cities such as Carmel, Fishers, and Greenwood are also experiencing well above-normal warmth heading into the end of the weekend.
The unusual warmth may impact outdoor plans and increase early-season allergy activity, while also setting the stage for incoming storms later Sunday as a cold front approaches.
Residents should stay weather-aware as conditions shift quickly by Sunday evening, with cooler air expected to return by early Monday. Additional records could fall if temperatures trend higher through the afternoon.
