Duluth, Minnesota – Roads along the North Shore and Arrowhead could turn slick within hours Saturday morning as a wintry mix creates light ice before temperatures rise by midday.

According to the National Weather Service in Duluth, a fast-moving clipper system is bringing scattered precipitation early today, with a rain and snow mix most likely across the Arrowhead region through the morning hours. While widespread accumulation is not expected, a light glaze of ice may develop in spots, especially before 11 a.m.

Communities including Duluth, Two Harbors, Silver Bay, and Grand Marais may see brief periods of mixed precipitation, with the greatest impact on elevated surfaces like Highway 61 and local bridges. Farther inland, cities such as Hibbing and International Falls will see mainly scattered rain showers as temperatures climb.

Another round of rain is expected later this afternoon into the evening, which could lead to wet road conditions during the evening drive. Visibility may drop at times in heavier showers.

Drivers are urged to slow down on untreated roads this morning and remain alert for changing conditions. Temperatures will warm above freezing by midday, reducing icing concerns, but additional updates may be issued as precipitation continues through tonight.
