Memphis, Tennessee – Summer-like heat is surging across the Mid-South this weekend, with highs climbing into the mid-80s and pushing close to record territory through Sunday afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Memphis, temperatures across western Tennessee, northern Mississippi, and eastern Arkansas will remain well above seasonal averages, with cities like Memphis, Jackson, Jonesboro, and Tupelo all reaching the low to mid-80s both Saturday and Sunday. This marks a spike of nearly 15 to 20 degrees above normal for late March.

The warmth will be short-lived. A cooldown begins by early Monday morning, dropping highs into the 60s and low 70s through Tuesday. Overnight lows will also fall into the 30s and 40s, bringing a noticeable shift after the weekend heat.

Travel along I-40, I-55, and US-78 should remain largely unaffected, with dry conditions persisting across the region. However, residents should stay hydrated and avoid overexertion during peak afternoon heat, especially with the sudden jump in temperatures.

Conditions remain dry into midweek, with another warming trend expected by Wednesday and Thursday.
