Pennsylvania and New Jersey commuters are driving into a wall of gray this morning, where visibility drops to just a quarter mile and headlights barely cut through the haze.

According to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, a Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 8 a.m. across eastern Pennsylvania and much of New Jersey, including Philadelphia, Trenton, Camden, and surrounding suburbs. Visibility has fallen to 0.25 miles or less, creating immediate travel hazards during the early commute.

Roadways including I-95, I-76, I-476, and the New Jersey Turnpike are seeing reduced visibility, especially near river valleys and low-lying areas. Drivers may encounter sudden drops in visibility within seconds. Use low-beam headlights and increase following distance. Avoid rapid lane changes.

In central Pennsylvania, including Harrisburg, Lancaster, and York, similar conditions are in place. According to the National Weather Service in State College, dense fog continues through the early morning hours, impacting routes like I-81 and Route 30.

Conditions will gradually improve after sunrise as temperatures rise and fog lifts. By late morning, visibility should return to normal across most areas, giving way to calmer spring conditions.

Meteorologists note this is a classic early spring setup, where cool ground and moist air combine to produce thick fog. These events can shift quickly, so conditions may improve or worsen within minutes.

If you’re heading out now, slow down and stay alert. Allow extra travel time and be prepared for sudden changes.
