Missouri – The air already feels warm and dry this morning, and temperatures are set to surge fast across the Kansas City metro, raising immediate fire concerns as spring heat intensifies.

According to the National Weather Service in Kansas City/Pleasant Hill, highs will reach near 93°F today with dry conditions persisting across western Missouri and eastern Kansas. This combination of heat and low moisture will elevate fire weather concerns, especially through the afternoon hours.

Sunshine dominates early, quickly warming roads and open fields. Areas along I-70, I-35, and I-435 face the highest risk for rapid fire spread where dry grass lines roadways. Avoid outdoor burning and secure trailer chains to prevent sparks. Even small ignitions can spread quickly in these conditions.

Winds stay relatively light today but shift Sunday, bringing gusts up to 30 mph by afternoon. That wind shift may briefly increase fire behavior before cooler air arrives.

Temperatures drop sharply by Monday, falling into the upper 50s to near 60°F. That 30-degree swing will feel abrupt after the early spring heat. Keep layers ready for the morning commute.

By Tuesday, calmer spring weather returns with highs in the upper 60s and partly sunny skies, offering a break from both heat and wind.

Looking ahead, warmer-than-average temperatures may build again later next week.

Stay alert for fire conditions today and changing temperatures into early next week. Are you seeing dry grass or smoky conditions near your neighborhood?
