Missouri – Dry grass and warm air are setting the stage for rapid fire spread across the Ozarks this morning as temperatures quickly climb toward summer-like levels.

According to the National Weather Service in Springfield, highs will reach near 91°F with relative humidity dropping as low as 15 to 25 percent. That combination creates elevated fire weather risk through the afternoon across southwest Missouri and nearby southeast Kansas.

Sunshine builds quickly, warming fields, neighborhoods, and roadways. Along U.S. 65, I-44, and rural county roads, dry vegetation can ignite easily. Avoid outdoor burning and be cautious with grills, chains, or equipment that may spark.

Winds remain light early but increase Sunday, with gusts up to 30 mph by afternoon. That shift could push any fires faster across open land. Plan outdoor activities early and stay alert for changing conditions.

By Sunday evening, cooler air begins to filter in, with highs easing into the mid-80s before dropping further. Monday brings a noticeable change, with highs near 65°F and calmer conditions returning.

Tuesday continues the cooling trend with highs in the mid-60s under partly sunny skies. This marks a sharp break from the early spring heat surge.

Looking ahead, warmer temperatures rebound by midweek, climbing back into the 80s.

Stay weather-aware today as fire conditions peak and winds increase into Sunday. Are you noticing dry, brittle grass in your area this morning?
