Alachua County, FL – A traffic stop Thursday afternoon led to the arrest of a convicted felon after deputies allegedly found firearms and narcotics inside a pickup truck.
According to the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office, deputies with the FOCUS Unit stopped a red Dodge pickup in the 500 block of Southwest 6th Place on March 19, 2026, for a traffic infraction. A records check showed the vehicle was attached to a white truck in Pompano Beach.
When deputies made contact, the driver, identified as 55-year-old Christopher Williams, allegedly showed indicators of being under the influence. Deputies also reported smelling marijuana coming from his person. Authorities said Williams does not have a medical marijuana card and is a convicted felon with prior charges including cocaine possession, battery, and burglary.
A K9 unit conducted an open-air sniff, which deputies say alerted to the presence of narcotics. A subsequent search of the vehicle allegedly uncovered a modified short-barreled shotgun, a black semi-automatic handgun, ammunition, and multiple narcotics.
According to investigators, deputies also located more than 15 grams of an unknown brown powder, suspected cocaine, Viagra pills, and drug paraphernalia including scales, razor blades, baking soda, and over 100 empty bags. Large amounts of cash were also recovered.
Williams was arrested and faces multiple charges, including possession of a short-barreled gun, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a vehicle used to sell drugs, and possession with intent to sell controlled substances.
The case remains under investigation.
The incident may be relevant to commuters and residents in the SW 6th Place area due to increased law enforcement activity.
