Dawson, PA – Authorities in Fayette County are asking for the public’s help after an unidentified man was found deceased in the Youghiogheny River over the weekend, prompting an active investigation by state police.

According to Pennsylvania State Police Troop B in Belle Vernon, the body was discovered Sunday evening near Dawson. Investigators said the man is believed to be a white male between 25 and 40 years old with an athletic build. He was described as bald, standing approximately 5 feet 11 inches tall and weighing around 182 pounds.

Officials said the man was wearing a burnt orange Mountain Hardware jacket, black Diamond gray pants and brown-and-green Muck boots at the time he was found. Troopers noted a distinct identifying feature: a single tattoo on his right shoulder blade depicting a mountain range.

Authorities have not released information regarding the cause or manner of death, and the circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation. Police have not indicated whether foul play is suspected at this time.

State police are urging anyone who may recognize the description or has information related to the case to come forward. Tips can be submitted by contacting the Belle Vernon station directly or through the Pennsylvania Crime Stoppers tip line. Officials said callers may remain anonymous and could be eligible for a cash reward if their information leads to a breakthrough in the case.
