Mahtomedi, MN – Residents in Washington County will have an opportunity this Saturday to safely dispose of unused or expired prescription medications during a community drug take back event.
According to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, the event is scheduled for Saturday, April 25, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Wildwood Elementary School, located at 8698 75th St. N. in Mahtomedi. The initiative is part of a broader effort to reduce risks associated with keeping unused medications at home.
Officials say old or unused prescriptions can pose serious dangers, including accidental poisoning, theft, and potential misuse. Improper disposal methods—such as throwing medications in the trash or flushing them—can also contribute to water pollution and harm wildlife.
The event provides a free and convenient way for residents to dispose of medications safely, with no appointment required. Community members are encouraged to clean out medicine cabinets ahead of time and bring any unwanted prescriptions for proper handling.
Drug take back programs like this are held periodically across Minnesota and nationwide to promote public safety and environmental protection. Organizers emphasize that participation helps prevent drug abuse and keeps harmful substances out of the wrong hands.
Residents across Mahtomedi, Washington County, and the greater Twin Cities area are encouraged to attend.
