Portland, ME – Snow is set to move into New Hampshire and Maine by mid-afternoon Friday, creating slick travel conditions inland as precipitation spreads east through the evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Gray, a fast-moving clipper system will bring widespread precipitation beginning in New Hampshire early this afternoon and expanding across Maine by evening. Most inland areas, including the foothills and mountains, will see snow, with light accumulations expected and several inches possible at higher elevations.

Cities such as Augusta, Lewiston, and Bangor may see a mix of rain and snow depending on elevation, while Portland and coastal communities are expected to remain mostly rain. Roads including I-95 and Route 302 could become slick inland as snow develops after 3 p.m.

Winds will increase into Saturday, with gusts up to 35 mph possible, adding to travel concerns in exposed areas.

Attention then shifts to Sunday into Monday, when a more widespread snow event could develop across inland areas, including parts of southern New Hampshire. While exact totals remain uncertain, the potential for plowable snow is increasing.

Residents should monitor updates closely as conditions evolve, especially with a more impactful system possible later this weekend.
