Flagstaff, AZ – Record-shattering heat has taken over northern Arizona, with temperatures soaring as much as 20 degrees above normal and breaking long-standing March records across the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Flagstaff, multiple cities set new daily and even all-time March high temperature records Thursday. Flagstaff reached 84 degrees, smashing its previous record of 71 set in 1907. Prescott climbed to 91 degrees, while Clarkdale surged to 99 degrees, marking exceptional early-season heat.

Communities including Payson, Winslow, and Williams also saw record highs, with temperatures pushing well into the upper 80s and 90s. This level of heat is highly unusual for March and increases risks such as dehydration and heat stress, especially during peak afternoon hours.

Dry conditions combined with the heat may also elevate fire danger across northern Arizona, particularly along corridors like I-17 and I-40 where dry vegetation is present.

The heat wave is expected to persist into the weekend, with additional records possible. Residents should stay hydrated, limit strenuous outdoor activity, and remain alert for any fire weather advisories as conditions continue.
