Austin, TX – Temperatures are climbing into the mid-90s by Friday afternoon, creating hot and dry conditions that could quickly increase fire danger across central and south-central Texas.
According to the National Weather Service in Austin-San Antonio, highs will range from the upper 80s to mid-90s through the weekend, with near-record temperatures expected from Friday through Sunday. Light south winds between 5 and 15 mph combined with very dry air will promote the spread of any fires that develop.
Cities including Austin, San Antonio, New Braunfels, and Del Rio will see persistent heat with little overnight relief, as lows remain in the upper 50s to low 60s. Dry vegetation and warm conditions heighten the risk for grass fires, especially along major corridors like I-35 and U.S. 90.
No rainfall is expected through early next week, allowing dry conditions to intensify across the region. Residents are urged to avoid outdoor burning, properly dispose of cigarettes, and stay hydrated during prolonged outdoor activity.
The heat and dry pattern will continue into next week, with additional advisories possible if fire danger increases further.
