Albany, NY – Rain is set to spread into eastern New York by mid-afternoon Friday, creating slick travel in higher elevations where snow could fall before changing over during the evening hours.

According to the National Weather Service in Albany, clouds will rapidly increase through the late morning, with rain developing after 3 p.m. across the Capital Region and Hudson Valley. In the southern Adirondacks, precipitation may begin as snow, producing a coating up to 2 inches before transitioning to rain by early evening.

Cities including Albany, Schenectady, Troy, and Pittsfield will see temperatures in the upper 40s to low 50s, supporting steady rainfall through the late-day commute. Roads such as I-87 and I-90 could become slick during heavier bursts, especially north of the Capital District where colder air lingers.

Farther south toward Poughkeepsie and the mid-Hudson Valley, rain arrives later in the afternoon with milder temperatures near 58 degrees limiting any wintry impacts.

The system marks a damp start to spring, which officially begins at 10:46 a.m. Friday. Showers taper off later tonight, but additional unsettled weather may follow into the weekend as temperatures remain seasonable.
