Albuquerque, N.M. – A stretch of early-season heat could build quickly across New Mexico, pushing temperatures well above normal before a late-period chance of rain shifts conditions heading into early April.

According to the National Weather Service Climate Prediction Center, the 8-to-14 day outlook from Friday, March 27 through Thursday, April 2 shows well above-normal temperatures across the state, with a strong signal for warmer-than-average conditions. This pattern supports a prolonged period of dry, building heat across much of the region.

In central New Mexico, including Albuquerque and Santa Fe, daytime highs are expected to climb steadily, with some areas approaching the upper 80s to mid-90s. These temperatures could increase heat exposure risks, particularly during the afternoon hours.

Southern areas, including Las Cruces and Roswell, are likely to see the most intense heat, with prolonged stretches of above-normal temperatures. Dry conditions will dominate early in the period.

Late in the stretch, a slight increase in moisture could bring isolated showers or thunderstorms, particularly across higher terrain and southern zones. While coverage appears limited, any storms could briefly impact travel with reduced visibility and slick roads.

Residents are urged to stay hydrated, limit outdoor activity during peak heat, and remain alert for changing conditions late in the period.

This pattern is expected to continue into early April, with additional updates likely as temperature and rain chances become clearer.
