West Rutland, Vermont – A 41-year-old man faces DUI-drugs charges after an erratic driving report prompted a roadside investigation.
According to the Rutland County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded Feb. 8 at approximately 5:06 p.m. to reports of a vehicle operating erratically on Rutland Road in West Rutland. Authorities said the vehicle was later found off the roadway near the intersection of Pleasant Street and Sheldon Avenue.
Investigators allege the driver, identified as Levi J. Davis of Florence, was unresponsive when officers arrived. Corporal Gregory Ricketts observed indicators of drug impairment, according to the sheriff’s office.
Davis was transported to Rutland Regional Medical Center, where a search warrant was obtained to collect a blood sample for testing at the Vermont Forensic Laboratory. Police said the warrant was approved by a Rutland Criminal Court judge and executed at the hospital.
Authorities allege Davis was later cited to appear in Rutland Superior Court, Criminal Division, on charges including operating a motor vehicle under the influence of drugs and negligent operation of a motor vehicle. His vehicle was towed from the scene.
On March 18, the Vermont Forensic Laboratory confirmed the presence of multiple controlled substances in Davis’ blood, including benzoylecgonine (a cocaine metabolite), fentanyl, and norfentanyl, according to officials.
The case remains pending in court. The incident may be relevant to local commuters due to safety concerns tied to impaired driving on heavily traveled routes.
