Pueblo, CO – Intense early-season heat is building across southern Colorado today, with temperatures climbing into the upper 80s and low 90s and pushing toward record-breaking levels by Saturday afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, highs will reach around 86 degrees Thursday in Pueblo before rising to near 92 degrees Friday and mid-90s Saturday. In Lamar, temperatures could peak near 96 degrees Friday, exceeding long-standing records, while La Junta and Springfield also surge into the 90s.

Colorado Springs is expected to climb into the upper 80s through Saturday, while Canon City and Trinidad see similar heat, all running well above seasonal averages. Dry conditions combined with warm temperatures may increase fire danger, especially across grassland areas.

The prolonged heat will impact outdoor activities, increasing the risk of dehydration and heat-related stress during peak afternoon hours.

Residents are urged to stay hydrated, limit strenuous outdoor activity during the hottest part of the day, and avoid outdoor burning.

Relief arrives Sunday as a cold front pushes through, dropping temperatures significantly into the 60s and 70s Sunday and Monday. Additional updates are expected as this sharp cooldown approaches.
