Rainelle, West Virginia – Temperatures will dip below freezing overnight, bringing a cold snap early Monday that could damage vegetation and create patchy frost for the morning commute in western Greenbrier County.
According to the National Weather Service in Blacksburg, a Freeze Warning is in effect from 2 a.m. to 10 a.m. Monday. Lows are expected to reach around 30 degrees by daybreak, with colder pockets possible in valleys near Rainelle, Quinwood, and Duo.
Several hours of sub-freezing temperatures are likely before sunrise. Roads such as Route 60 and nearby mountain routes may develop patchy frost on bridges and overpasses between 5 a.m. and 9 a.m., increasing the risk of slick travel for early drivers.
The freeze poses a threat to early-season crops, gardens, and sensitive vegetation. Residents should cover or bring in plants and take precautions to protect outdoor growing areas. While widespread infrastructure impacts are limited, exposed outdoor systems could still be affected in colder spots.
Temperatures are expected to rise above freezing after 10 a.m. Monday, reducing immediate impacts. Additional cold alerts may be issued if similar conditions return later this week.
