Green Bay, Wisconsin – Drivers across northeast Wisconsin are waking up to slick, snow-covered roads at 3 a.m., creating immediate hazards for anyone heading out before sunrise.

According to the National Weather Service in Green Bay and the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, a light wintry mix overnight has left highways and local roads partially to completely covered across the region as of 3:00 a.m. Officials say conditions can change quickly, especially on bridges, ramps, and untreated secondary roads.

The impact stretches across a wide portion of the state, including Green Bay, Appleton, Oshkosh, Wausau, and Rhinelander. Major corridors like I-41, U.S. 41, and Highway 29 are seeing reduced traction in spots, while rural and less-traveled routes remain the most snow-covered. In parts of Menominee County and areas west toward central Wisconsin, isolated stretches of fully covered pavement are reported.

Morning commuters should plan for slower travel speeds and allow extra time. Sudden slick spots may develop even where pavement looks wet. Transportation officials urge drivers to increase following distance, avoid sudden braking, and check 511wi.gov for live updates before heading out.

Conditions are expected to gradually improve later this morning as crews continue treatment, but drivers should remain alert through the early commute. Additional advisories may be issued if road conditions worsen or precipitation lingers.
