Austin, Texas – Temperatures surging into the mid to upper 90s are creating dangerous heat and fire conditions across Central Texas, with record highs possible as early as Friday afternoon.
According to the National Weather Service in Austin-San Antonio, highs will climb well above normal through the weekend, with Austin reaching near 95 degrees and surrounding areas like San Antonio, Del Rio, and Eagle Pass pushing between 94 and 97 degrees. South winds of 5 to 15 mph, with gusts up to 20 mph, will combine with dry air to increase fire spread potential.
The heat will intensify through Saturday and Sunday, when multiple locations could challenge or break daily temperature records. Cities along the I-35 corridor, including Austin, San Marcos, and New Braunfels, will see some of the hottest conditions during peak afternoon hours.
Dry vegetation and lack of rainfall will heighten fire خطر across the region, especially in rural and grassy areas. Officials urge residents to avoid outdoor burning and use caution with any equipment that could spark a fire.
The hot, dry pattern is expected to continue into early next week, with additional updates likely as record temperatures and fire conditions evolve.
