Houston, TX – Severe weather is expected across Southeast Texas Saturday as a cold front pushes through the region, bringing heavy rain, strong storms, and dangerous coastal conditions.

According to the National Weather Service in Houston/Galveston, scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms are developing Saturday afternoon into the evening. Some storms could become strong, producing gusty winds, small hail, and frequent lightning.

Forecasters warn that locally heavy rainfall may lead to minor flooding, especially in low-lying or poorly drained areas. Rainfall rates could reach 2 to 3 inches per hour at times. A marginal risk (level 1 of 4) for excessive rainfall is in place, particularly along and south of the I-10 corridor, including Houston, Sugar Land, and surrounding communities.

Along the Gulf Coast, beachgoers face a high risk of dangerous rip currents through Saturday evening. Officials warn that even experienced swimmers could be swept away and advise staying out of the water or swimming near lifeguards.

Marine conditions are also expected to worsen late Saturday into Sunday. A gale warning is in effect for offshore waters from High Island to Matagorda, with winds potentially reaching 30 to 35 knots and higher gusts. Seas could build to 7 to 10 feet offshore, creating hazardous conditions for boaters, especially those operating smaller vessels.

The affected region includes Houston, Galveston, and surrounding coastal communities in Southeast Texas. Residents are urged to remain weather-aware and monitor updates as conditions evolve throughout the weekend.
