Juneau, AK – Heavy snow and gusty winds will continue to impact coastal Southeast Alaska through 7 p.m. Wednesday, with travel disruptions already underway in communities like Elfin Cove and Pelican.

According to the National Weather Service in Juneau, a Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 7 p.m. AKDT Wednesday for the Cape Fairweather to Lisianski Strait region. An additional 2 to 4 inches of snow is expected before the warning expires, with wind gusts reaching up to 35 mph, reducing visibility and creating difficult travel conditions.

After 7 p.m., the storm transitions into a Winter Weather Advisory lasting until 4 a.m. Friday. Total snowfall is expected to reach 6 to 9 inches across the المنطقة, with ongoing snow showers continuing overnight and into Thursday. Periods of heavier snow may briefly produce snowfall rates near 1 inch per hour, sharply lowering visibility to one-half mile or less.

Travel across marine routes, small airstrips, and local roads may be impacted. Residents are urged to delay unnecessary travel, carry emergency supplies, and prepare for rapidly changing conditions, especially in exposed coastal areas.

Conditions may briefly ease Friday morning, but additional snow could return to the Panhandle this weekend, with further alerts possible.
