Grand Forks, ND – Wind-driven snow showers could briefly drop visibility below one mile this afternoon, creating sudden travel hazards across eastern North Dakota.

According to the National Weather Service in Grand Forks, northwest winds will increase to 20 to 30 mph through Saturday, combining with scattered snow showers developing late afternoon and continuing into tonight. While accumulation is expected to remain minimal, the primary concern is reduced visibility and quick-changing road conditions.

Temperatures across the Red River Valley, including Grand Forks, Fargo, and Devils Lake, will struggle between 30 and 45 degrees. Open rural roads and highways such as I-29 and U.S. Highway 2 may see the most noticeable impacts from blowing snow.

Conditions remain cold into Sunday, with morning lows dropping into the mid-teens to upper 20s. Winds will ease slightly, but chilly air lingers before a significant warmup begins early next week.

Drivers should slow down during snow bursts, keep headlights on, and allow extra stopping distance. Additional advisories remain possible through tonight as conditions shift.
