Indiana – Rain taps steadily on windshields across Indianapolis this morning, and bursts of heavier showers are already slowing traffic as storms push through central Indiana.

According to the National Weather Service, scattered showers and thunderstorms will continue through the day, with rain chances reaching 80% and wind gusts up to 23 mph. While severe storms are not expected, lightning and brief heavy downpours could quickly reduce visibility and create hazardous travel conditions.

Across Indianapolis, drivers along I-65, I-70, and I-465 should expect slick pavement and sudden slowdowns through the afternoon. Water may pool in low-lying areas, especially during heavier rain bursts. Keep extra distance between vehicles and allow more time for commutes.

Conditions begin to settle later in the day as the cold front moves through, but the bigger story follows. Temperatures drop sharply, with highs only near 60°F Sunday and a brisk feel returning to the air.

By early Monday, colder air settles in. Lows fall to around 36°F, and patchy frost could form across northern and suburban areas. Gardeners should cover sensitive plants and bring potted vegetation indoors.

Meteorologists now tracking the extended pattern say a quick rebound is ahead. Sunshine returns Monday afternoon, followed by a strong warm-up into Tuesday, when highs climb into the mid-70s.

The midweek stretch looks more spring-like, with mild temperatures and only slight storm chances returning by Tuesday night and Wednesday.
