Wichita, Kansas – A rapid warmup is underway across central and southern Kansas, with temperatures climbing into the 70s today and surging toward near 90°F by Saturday afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Wichita, highs will reach between 73°F and 80°F Wednesday before jumping into the 80s Thursday and Friday. By Saturday, several locations across south-central and southeast Kansas could approach 90°F, marking a swing of more than 20 degrees above normal for mid-March.

Cities along I-35, U.S. 54, and the Kansas Turnpike—including Wichita, Hutchinson, and Winfield—will see consistent sunshine and dry conditions, allowing temperatures to rise quickly each afternoon. Overnight lows in the mid-40s to low 50s will offer limited cooling as the warm stretch builds.

While this early-season heat is not extreme, it can still impact outdoor plans and increase dehydration risk. Residents should stay hydrated, wear light clothing, and take breaks during peak afternoon hours.

Dry weather continues through Saturday, with the warmest conditions expected late in the weekend. A pattern shift may bring cooler air beyond that, with additional updates possible.
