Georgia – Dry air and gusty winds are combining this afternoon to create dangerous fire conditions, with any spark capable of spreading quickly across the Atlanta area.
According to the National Weather Service in Peachtree City, a Fire Danger Statement is in effect through this evening, with relative humidity dropping near or below 30% and wind gusts reaching up to 20 mph. Outdoor burning is strongly discouraged due to the elevated risk.
Across metro Atlanta, including Fulton, DeKalb, and Cobb counties, warm temperatures near 88°F and steady southwest winds will dry out vegetation quickly. Grasses and brush can ignite easily, especially near roadways and construction zones. Avoid any open flames and properly dispose of cigarettes.
By later tonight into early Sunday, conditions begin to shift. A 30% chance of showers and isolated thunderstorms develops, which may bring brief downpours and gusty winds. While rainfall will be limited, it could temporarily reduce fire risk.
Sunday turns cooler with highs near 69°F as a cold front moves through. Winds shift and remain noticeable, adding a crisp feel compared to today’s warmth.
The most significant change arrives into early Monday. Temperatures drop into the upper 40s to near 50°F overnight, bringing a much cooler start to the day. Monday stays sunny with highs around 75°F and calmer conditions.
Looking ahead, a steady warm-up returns by midweek with highs climbing back into the 80s under mostly sunny skies.
