Springfield, Illinois – Slippery spots from early morning flurries are fading quickly across central Illinois, with a rapid warm-up already underway that will push temperatures toward springlike levels within days.

According to the National Weather Service in Lincoln, light snow and flurries will exit the region by mid-morning Wednesday, leaving behind mostly sunny skies and improving road conditions. Highs today will reach between 46°F and 56°F, allowing any remaining snow on roads like I-55 and I-72 to melt by midday.

Cities including Decatur, Champaign, and Bloomington will see dry conditions dominate through the rest of the week. A slight chance of light rain may develop early Thursday morning in northern and northeastern parts of the state, but most areas remain dry.

The warming trend accelerates heading into the weekend. Highs climb into the upper 50s to upper 60s Thursday, then surge into the 70–75°F range Friday. By Saturday, temperatures peak between 71°F and 78°F, marking the warmest stretch so far this season.

Drivers should remain cautious early today for any lingering slick spots, but overall travel conditions improve quickly. Dry weather and above-normal temperatures will hold through Saturday before cooler air returns by Sunday. Additional updates may follow if rain chances increase late weekend.
