Michigan roads are turning slick fast this morning as light snow spreads across Grand Rapids, dusting cars and coating untreated pavement. Temperatures sit near 20°F, and wind chills dip into the single digits, allowing even light snowfall to stick quickly.

According to the National Weather Service in Grand Rapids, snow showers increase through mid-morning with up to a half inch possible. A light freezing rain risk develops late in the morning hours, which could glaze roads and sidewalks just as traffic builds.

Drivers across Kent, Ottawa, and Muskegon counties should expect changing conditions block by block. Major routes like US-131 and I-196 may look wet but remain icy underneath. Plan extra time and avoid sudden braking. This is prime flash-freeze territory as surfaces struggle to warm.

Flood concerns add another layer of impact. The Grand River near Comstock Park is under a flood warning, with water levels expected to crest near 12.5 feet by early afternoon. Low-lying roads and nearby neighborhoods could see minor flooding. Never drive through water-covered roads.

Conditions begin improving by Thursday as temperatures rise near 48°F with a chance of rain replacing frozen precipitation. By Friday, highs reach 55°F, signaling a shift toward early spring.

Saturday brings more sunshine and highs near 59°F, helping melt remaining snow and ice. However, runoff may keep rivers elevated into the weekend.
