Liberty Lake, Washington – Two fugitives wanted in a California child death case were arrested Tuesday evening in Liberty Lake, prompting extradition proceedings.

According to the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office, members of the Regional Anti-Violence Enforcement & Narcotics (RAVEN) Task Force located and arrested Sherwood D. Johnson II, 37, and Megan M. Fredrick, 33, who were allegedly wanted on felony warrants out of California.

Authorities said detectives from the Sutter County Sheriff’s Office in California provided information that the two suspects were believed to be in the Liberty Lake area. Both Johnson and Fredrick were reportedly wanted on nationwide extradition warrants tied to charges of murder and willful cruelty to a child resulting in injury or death.

Investigators conducted surveillance on April 16 and located Fredrick at a residence in the 24000 block of East Mission Avenue. Johnson was later found at a business in the 23200 block of East Appleway Avenue.

RAVEN Task Force members arrested Johnson at approximately 6:00 p.m., and Fredrick was taken into custody around 6:30 p.m., according to officials. Both were transported by Liberty Lake Police officers and booked into jail on fugitive charges. They are currently being held pending extradition to California.

Authorities have not released additional details about the underlying case in California.

The arrests involved coordination between multiple agencies, including local and federal partners assigned to the RAVEN Task Force.

The case may be of particular relevance to students and young families due to its connection to a child death investigation.
