Los Angeles, CA – Triple-digit heat is surging across inland Southern California right now, pushing temperatures past 100°F and creating an immediate risk for heat illness during peak afternoon hours.

According to the National Weather Service in Los Angeles/Oxnard, this rare March heat event will drive temperatures 25 to 35 degrees above normal through Friday, with little day-to-day relief. Forecasters say inland valleys and foothills will see the most extreme conditions, while coastal areas remain slightly cooler but still well above seasonal averages.

Santa Clarita and nearby valleys are expected to reach 101°F, while areas like Canoga Park and Fillmore push near or above 100°F. Downtown Los Angeles could climb to around 92°F, with Long Beach nearing 97°F. Even typically cooler spots like Paso Robles and San Luis Obispo are expected to hit the upper 90s. Overnight lows will remain elevated, limiting relief and increasing cumulative heat stress.

The prolonged heat is likely to strain power usage as air conditioning demand spikes, especially during late afternoon and early evening hours. Residents are urged to shift outdoor activity to early morning, stay hydrated, and seek air-conditioned spaces. Officials also stress checking on vulnerable neighbors and never leaving children or pets in vehicles.

This level of heat in March is uncommon and could challenge daily temperature records across the region. Warnings remain in effect through Friday, with additional advisories possible if conditions persist into the weekend.
