Kansas City, MO – Light snow is expected to develop across northern Missouri this evening, with a brief window for slick spots on untreated roads before conditions improve overnight.

According to the National Weather Service in Kansas City, precipitation will move in during the evening hours, mainly as snow but occasionally mixing with rain. Accumulation will remain minimal, with most areas seeing no more than a light dusting, primarily north of I-70 including Kirksville, Chillicothe, and St. Joseph.

While impacts will be limited, roadways could become briefly slick between 6 p.m. and 10 p.m., especially on bridges and overpasses where surface temperatures cool quickly. In the Kansas City metro, precipitation may mix with rain at times, further limiting accumulation but still requiring caution during the evening commute.

Conditions will improve overnight as precipitation exits, setting the stage for a significant warmup. Highs on Wednesday will climb into the upper 50s and 60s across much of Missouri, with even warmer temperatures expected later this week.

Drivers should remain alert for isolated slick spots this evening but can expect improving travel conditions by early Wednesday. Attention then shifts to increasing fire weather concerns later this week as warmer, drier air moves into the region.
