Wilmington, NC – A late-season freeze is set to hit the coastal Carolinas overnight, with temperatures dipping below freezing and threatening plants, crops, and outdoor plumbing before sunrise Wednesday.

According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, a Freeze Warning remains in effect from 2 a.m. until 10 a.m. Wednesday for southeastern North Carolina and northeastern South Carolina. Temperatures are expected to fall as low as 29 degrees across inland and coastal communities, including Wilmington, Myrtle Beach, Florence, and Lumberton.

The coldest stretch will occur between 3 a.m. and 8 a.m., when calm winds allow temperatures to drop quickly across Brunswick, New Hanover, Horry, and Georgetown counties. Inland areas such as Bladen and Columbus counties may see the most widespread frost.

Residents should cover sensitive plants, bring pets indoors, and protect exposed pipes to prevent damage. Coastal communities may see slightly milder conditions, but frost can still form in sheltered areas.

Temperatures will rebound after sunrise Wednesday, but additional cold mornings remain possible, and more advisories could be issued if conditions persist.
