Atlanta, GA – A widespread hard freeze is set to grip nearly all of Georgia overnight, with temperatures plunging into the lower 20s and creating dangerous conditions for crops, plumbing, and early spring growth.

According to the National Weather Service in Peachtree City, a Freeze Warning remains in effect from 11 p.m. Tuesday until 10 a.m. Wednesday. Temperatures across metro Atlanta, north Georgia, and central portions of the state are expected to fall as low as 22 degrees, marking one of the coldest late-season events this year.

The coldest conditions will develop between 2 a.m. and 8 a.m., impacting major population centers including Atlanta, Athens, Macon, Columbus, and Rome. Rural areas and valleys could see even colder pockets, increasing the risk of widespread frost and freeze damage.

Sensitive vegetation, including early crops and blooming plants, faces a high risk of damage or loss. Residents are urged to cover plants, bring pets indoors, and protect exposed pipes by wrapping or allowing faucets to drip.

Temperatures will rebound after sunrise Wednesday, but additional cold mornings remain possible, and further advisories could be issued statewide.
