Los Angeles, Calif. – An intense surge of early-season heat is set to build across California and Arizona, pushing temperatures far beyond late-March averages and creating potentially hazardous travel conditions during the spring break period.

According to the National Weather Service Climate Prediction Center, this region will experience temperatures running 80 to 90 percent above normal from March 24 through March 30, while precipitation trends remain below normal. This pattern supports prolonged sunshine and little to no rainfall across the Southwest.

Across Los Angeles, San Diego, Phoenix, Tucson, and inland desert areas, daytime highs are expected to climb into the mid-80s to low 90s, with desert locations pushing even higher. Morning temperatures will remain mild in the 50s and 60s. Major corridors including I-5, I-10, I-15, and U.S. 60 are expected to stay dry, supporting steady but heat-impacted travel.

Drivers should prepare for heat-related fatigue, especially during peak afternoon hours. Stay hydrated, keep extra water in vehicles, and avoid long stretches without breaks. In desert areas, be alert for blowing dust reducing visibility below one mile.

For baseball fans across California and Arizona, including those following the Dodgers, Padres, and Diamondbacks, the opening stretch of the season will feel more like early summer, with lightweight clothing essential.

This extreme warm pattern is expected to hold through late March, with little relief in sight heading into early April.
