Tallahassee, FL – Subfreezing temperatures are set to return across South Georgia and North Florida overnight, bringing a renewed risk of plant damage and frozen pipes before sunrise Wednesday.
According to the National Weather Service in Tallahassee, inland areas from the Florida Panhandle into southern Georgia will experience several hours of temperatures at or below 32 degrees between 2 a.m. and 9 a.m. Wednesday. A Freeze Warning is expected to follow as conditions worsen overnight, especially away from the immediate coast.
Cities including Valdosta, Albany, Bainbridge, and Tallahassee are likely to see lows near 30 degrees, while colder rural pockets could dip into the upper 20s. Cross City may see some of the lowest readings. Coastal communities like Panama City and Apalachicola should stay just above freezing but will still wake up to brisk conditions.
The cold snap poses a threat to early spring crops and sensitive vegetation already beginning to bloom. Residents should cover plants, bring pets indoors, and insulate or drip exposed pipes to prevent costly damage. Opening cabinets and disconnecting outdoor hoses can also help reduce freeze risk.
Conditions improve quickly after sunrise Wednesday, though additional cold mornings remain possible later this week if skies stay clear.
