Hood River, Oregon – Temperatures could dip near freezing overnight across parts of northwest Oregon, putting crops and sensitive plants at risk early Friday morning.
According to the National Weather Service in Portland, a Freeze Watch remains in effect from 1 a.m. to 9 a.m. Friday for the Upper Hood River Valley and Cascade foothills, including areas near Odell, Parkdale, and Mill City. Overnight lows could fall to around 30 degrees, cold enough to damage early-season vegetation.
Orchards and agricultural areas in the Hood River Valley are especially vulnerable, as the growing season is already underway. Similar risks extend into the Cascade foothills of Marion, Linn, and Lane counties, where colder valley areas can settle overnight.
Residents are urged to cover plants with lightweight fabric, protect irrigation systems, and insulate exposed pipes before temperatures fall. Even a brief freeze during the pre-dawn hours can cause lasting damage.
Conditions are expected to improve after 9 a.m. Friday, but officials note that additional cold mornings remain possible if the pattern persists.
