Cleveland, Ohio – Lake-effect snow sweeping off Lake Erie is set to create slick roads and sudden visibility drops across northeast Ohio Monday night, with snow bands continuing to impact travel into Tuesday afternoon.
According to the National Weather Service in Cleveland, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 2 p.m. EDT Tuesday for Cuyahoga, Lake, Geauga, Ashtabula, and Trumbull counties. Lake-effect snow could bring 2 to 4 inches of additional accumulation while winds gust up to 45 mph, blowing snow across roads in communities including Cleveland, Mentor, Chardon, Warren, and Ashtabula.
The strongest snow bands may develop along Interstate 90 and the Lake Erie shoreline, where bursts of snow can quickly cover pavement and reduce visibility. Drivers could encounter rapidly changing conditions, with heavy snow in one neighborhood and little accumulation just a few miles away.
Farther east in Erie and Crawford counties in Pennsylvania, snowfall totals could reach 3 to 7 inches through early Wednesday morning as lake-effect bands persist. Gusts up to 40 mph may produce drifting snow and hazardous road conditions around Erie, Meadville, and Titusville.
Meanwhile, Mahoning County, Ohio, including Youngstown, could see 1 to 3 inches of snow with gusts up to 35 mph before the advisory expires at midnight Monday night.
Drivers are urged to reduce speed, increase following distance, and check OHGO traffic updates or 511PA before traveling. Lake-effect snow bands may continue shifting across the region into Tuesday night before gradually weakening early Wednesday.
