Dallas–Fort Worth, Texas – Dry air and gusty winds could quickly increase grass fire danger across North Texas today, while temperatures plunge toward freezing overnight, creating a sharp start to the week across the region.
According to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth, a cold and breezy pattern will dominate Monday with north winds between 15 and 25 mph and afternoon temperatures only reaching the upper 40s to low 50s across much of North Texas. The combination of dry air and wind has prompted an elevated grass fire threat stretching from Graham and Cisco through the Dallas–Fort Worth Metroplex to Waco and Paris.
Communities including DFW (51°), Canton (49°), and Palestine (50°) will see sunshine but continued breezy conditions that could allow fires to spread quickly in dry grass areas. Officials urge residents to avoid outdoor burning and properly dispose of cigarettes, especially along rural highways and open fields.
Temperatures will fall rapidly after sunset as winds weaken and skies remain clear. Overnight lows are expected to drop to 32° in Dallas–Fort Worth, 31° in Killeen, 29° in Waco, 29° in Graham, and as cold as 27° near Paris by early Tuesday morning.
Residents should dress in layers during the morning commute and protect sensitive plants and outdoor pets overnight as the brief freeze settles across much of North Texas.
Additional updates may be issued if fire weather conditions intensify or freezing temperatures expand across the region.
