According to the National Weather Service in Salt Lake City, temperatures will rise steadily over the next several days as a strong ridge of high pressure expands across the western United States. This pattern is expected to deliver unusually warm March weather across northern Utah.
Salt Lake City begins the day near 39°F under overcast skies, but partial sunshine will gradually break through by afternoon. Temperatures will climb to around 60°F, a comfortable rebound compared to the frosty start.
The real change arrives Tuesday. Bright sunshine and light winds will push afternoon highs to about 71°F across Salt Lake City, West Valley City, and Sandy. Parks, trails, and downtown sidewalks will feel noticeably warmer as spring air settles in.
By Wednesday afternoon, temperatures surge to around 78°F, nearly twenty degrees above seasonal averages. Meteorologists say this warm pattern continues Thursday when highs approach 80°F across the Salt Lake Valley.
Drivers should remain cautious early each morning this week. Snowmelt from nearby foothills may refreeze on shaded ramps along I-15, I-80, and Legacy Parkway, creating slick patches during early commutes.
The warming trend continues into late week with some of the warmest temperatures Salt Lake City has seen since last fall. Forecasters say additional warmth could expand across the Great Basin as the ridge strengthens.
Residents should enjoy the sunshine but remain aware that rapid snowmelt in nearby mountains can increase runoff in streams and creeks.
