Minnesota — Blowing snow skims across frozen pavement in the Twin Cities this morning as sharp northwest winds sweep through Minneapolis and St. Paul. The air feels biting and raw, more like mid-winter than mid-March.

Temperatures hover near 12°F in the Twin Cities, but strong winds push wind chills close to -10°F. Gusts around 35 mph are creating patchy blowing snow across open roads and bridges.

Drivers moving through Interstate 94, I-35, and Highway 36 may notice quick bursts of drifting snow. Visibility can briefly drop, especially in open areas outside the metro.

Meteorologists say the morning remains brisk but mostly sunny. Blowing snow gradually fades through midday as winds slowly ease.

Even so, cold air holds firm through the afternoon. High temperatures only reach around 18°F, keeping sidewalks and roadways icy in shaded areas.

Tonight brings partly cloudy skies and even colder temperatures. Lows plunge toward -1°F, allowing any leftover moisture to freeze quickly. Slick patches could develop overnight into early Tuesday.

A new system arrives Tuesday afternoon with snow likely by late day. Light snow may continue into Tuesday night with around 1 to 2 inches possible across parts of the Twin Cities.

Conditions improve quickly by Wednesday, March 18, as sunshine returns and temperatures rebound into the low 40s. That warming trend continues through late week as early spring begins to take hold.
